Ladies and gentlemen, time to flip on those televisions again: Israel and Palestine are once again at war with each other as Israel has invaded the Gaza Strip. This time, Palestine once again has found themselves on the side of the instigator as they refused to had over Corporal Gilad Shalit, who is being held by Palestinian militant forces. The Palestinians ignored warnings that only the release of Shalit would resolve the crisis and not some sort of political agreement. Most will recall that Gaza was surrendered to Palestine last summer when Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon destroyed 21 Jewish settlements and removed the Israelis from God's land. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Sharon was in a coma. So far, no casualties have been reported in the offensive but they should be expected in the immediate/near future. Reports have come in that three bridges have been destroyed, hampering "the ability of the terrorists to transfer the kidnapped soldier," said Israeli military in a statement issued regarding the destruction of the bridges. Israeli warplanes also flew over Gaza City in air raids that sent out sonic booms that shattered many of the windows in the city. Most of the electricity in Gaza is out as Israeli planes fired a slew of missiles at a power station that provides power for the area. Firefighters attempted to control the blaze but were unable to, allowing the power to go out for most of Gaza. Inside Gaza, militants have taken up positions in various portions of the area near where Israeli forces are massing and preparing to move in. War is on the brink and most likely will happen. Palestine was warned and sat on their hands waiting for the Israelis to make a move. And they did. (Photo Credit: Associated Press) |
